About Me

Karmela Jones (She/Her), Counsellor and Psychotherapist

My journey into psychotherapy has been influenced by my experiences as a Black, mixed-race queer cis woman, as all our journeys are influenced by our positionality in society. Having immigrated to London form America in 2008, I also have first-hand experience of how these different positionalities can be changed dramatically by context and surroundings. These experiences have led me to keep curiosity, non-judgement and openness at the core my practice as well as an ethic of care and justice to and for my clients.

Whilst, I earned a bachelor's in psychology in 2007, eventually leading to a post-graduate diploma and career in counselling and psychotherapy, my path has been neither smooth nor straight forward. I highly value my training and education and continue to develop through continuous training and education, whilst I also draw on my own background of failures and successes, hardship and perseverance, to give me empathy and insight into what others may be going through. I will never pretend to know what it's like to be you, but I do know what it's like to need to be heard and understood, and how difficult it can be to ask for help. I will do my best to help you find room for you own voice that for you in a safe, confidential and supportive space.
